As more businesses venture into social media, the questions that business managers are asking is shifting. The most common question I get today is ‘How do I manage my staff’s use of social media?’
I was working offsite at a client office recently and had a huge reminder about the power of the right kind of direct mail – that is, marketing items or content that is relevant and interesting for your contacts.
I get approached by eager young things looking for an internship pretty much every day.
Is your newsletter having a positive or negative impact on your email marketing database? Do people ‘refer-a-friend’ when they get your newsletter, or unsubscribe?
I am sent many online newsletters and am consistently amazed – and not in a good way.
Here’s my dilemma. I run and attend a lot of meetings where food is provided so that everyone can ‘eat and work’ in the spirit of efficiency. What’s interesting is nine times out of ten, the food is still on the table an hour or two later – hardly touched.
There have been many analogies for “the multiplier effect”. Pushing a flywheel; riding a rollercoaster; the list goes on. The premise of the multiplier effect is that the impact of any addition of a marketing element or channel will have a multiple effect after a certain number of repetitions.
It seems that no matter where you go, people are talking about this new phenomenon called social media, and what it means for businesses. The conclusion from the circles I have traveled has been “not much”, or “we’re waiting to see”, or downright skepticism that there will be benefits for business-to-business interactions.
Companies regularly ring us to price ‘sending out a media release’, and in almost every case, we explain the chances of receiving coverage is unlikely if this is their only tactic – unless the media already has an interest in them.
The government has introduced the new Fair Work Bill that covers quite a lot of ground, but one area I have been struggling to come to terms with is the mandate to provide flexible working hours for working parents with children under school age.
